What controls the unknown depths of our subconscious? What makes us take action, and what stops us?

If we can understand those forces, we can achieve the things we aim to achieve. Our thoughts control our actions. If we can’t control our thoughts, we can’t control our actions.

How Can We Control Our Thoughts?

First, we need to divide our mindset into two categories: Fixed and Growth.

  • Fixed Mindset: In this mindset, we think about our situation, our circumstances, and our abilities and preferences as set in stone. We think nothing can be changed.
  • Growth Mindset: In this mindset, we keep an open mind about learning and expanding our skills and abilities. We are open to new opportunities and challenges, even if we don’t have all the answers up front. We are open to trying new approaches, and we are open to learning. Most importantly, we are not passively accepting the status quo.

We don’t have to choose to live with one mindset or the other. We can choose which mindset to apply in each situation we face. Then, we need to notice which mindset we are applying.

Look at and listen to your thoughts. Do you see or hear:

I can’t.

I don’t know how.

 or

There is no way...?

Acknowledge these thoughts. Then, let the growth mindset take over.

To do that, you have to sabotage your fixed mindset. But how?

Just adding the words yet or not yet to your thinking will change the game. Become persistent and open-minded. When you think this way, your thoughts shift to I haven’t yet figured this out or I don’t know how yet. It will open your mind to start looking for solutions. The path to finding the answer is being paved, and you’ll become unstoppable.

The mindset you apply is also an important component for ideation and brainstorming with your team. Watch out for clues, and make sure the team adopts a GROWTH MINDSET.
